I give an introduction to finite type invariants (Vassiliev invariants) of knots, from a combinatorial view point.

I will cover the following topics starting with an introduction to knot theory.

1) definition of finite type invariants
2) chord diagrams
3) Kontsevich integral
4) clasper theory
